These artists are bringing the heat without the beef.

It’s been a rough week for the City of Brotherly Love. Ever since Meek Mill took to Twitter to throw shots at Drake, the Canadian rapper has ignited a firestorm of hit records, cunning disses and shady memes with the overwhelming support of the Internet standing behind him.

Many Philadelphians, however, held out hope that Meek Mill would redeem himself. We lit our votive candles, formed prayer circles and hoped that the gritty North Philly rapper with nappy braids would redeem himself and unleash hell on Drake. What we got instead was the disappointing, incoherent, dud that is “Wanna Know.” As soon as the track dropped you could feel the collective energy of Philadelphia fizzle from excitement to secondhand embarrassment. You know it’s bad when even Rosetta Stone joined in on the massacre.

There’s no question that Meek’s public image has taken a huge hit due to his pettiness on social media and his complete absence when it came time to turn off the iPhone and make music. The fact that Meek Mill is still throwing shots on Instagram in the midst of all of this mess indicates how out of touch he has truly become. While the Meek Mill slander might be well-deserved and warranted, the city of Philadelphia has been unfairly paying for his sins. Yes, we know that Philadelphians were the main demographic who were hyping up the Meek Mill “comeback,” but that’s only because we know what our city is capable of. The thing about Philly is that we’re optimistic, sometimes to the point of delusion, but we always find a way to flip the script on a grim situation. Sidebar: Jill Scott just released a number one album titled Woman during this whole Drake vs. Meek fiasco. While one rapper definitely let his hometown down, there are dozens of rising stars that are definitely making us proud. While everyone is pointing and laughing at our expense, I thought I’d take a moment to showcase some artists from the 215 who can potentially overshadow Meek and instill pride in the City of Brotherly Love. I promise none of them rapped about the Rollie on their wrist.

  1. Lil Uzi Vert – “Count Dem Rollz”

  3. Marv Mack- “Paula Deen”
