As if being an NBA superstar wasn’t enough, New York Knicks player Carmelo Anthony is also now looking to get into the technology business with Melo7 Tech Partners, a firm looking to “invest in and develop opportunities primarily in early stage digital media, consumer internet and technology ventures.”

He and his business partner, Stuart Goldfarb, teamed up after Goldfarb met Carmelo’s wife, LaLa Anthony, at a boxing match. The duo spoke on Wednesday at TechCrunch‘s Disrupt NY. But Melo says it isn’t all about the profits that he could make.

“The money is enticing, but it’s also the thrill of being involved with businesses and companies that [are] changing the world today. Tech is changing the world in everything we do, whether it’s sports, fashion, music, regardless of what it is, tech is changing the world,” said Anthony.

Ideas discussed so far include wearable devices and virtual/augmented reality technology.

“For me, the most interesting thing is fan engagement,” he said, “Virtual reality could give fans at home an opportunity to experience a game as if they were courtside.”
