Ever since it was announced that Common was cast in the heavily anticipated, bad guys weaponized for good, anti-hero team Suicide Squad, the rumors have been flying. Speculation about his character being one of the most well known villains, as well as the most obscure and unlikely, have filled Reddit threads and Twitter mentions for weeks, especially when these photos surfaced.
Many outlets and fans made the link to a character that appeared in the comics named Abel Tarrant, The Tatooed Man. He’s a former criminal, like most of the squad, with a very unique power called body art animation – by touching a tattoo on his body, he can bring it to life.
However, it seems like we jumped the gun. In a interview with Ice Cube for Complex, Lonnie sets the record straight about his character in the upcoming DC film. He says he’s playing a guy called Monster T who’s in league with The Joker. That’s all he could giveaway, so the mystery is reignited once again.
We’ll just have to wait until Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 5th to really see what this character is all about.
