Another quarter, another successful Kevin Hart-fronted film. His latest film, Central Intelligence, which co-stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, was recently released to commercial success. Since he made his foray into the cinema world, Hart has faced lots of criticism from those who say that he plays the same role in each film.

Films like Get Hard, Ride Along, and The Wedding Ringer all feature Hart in the role of a “sidekick,” who is usually opposite of a more stern, level-headed partner. He is responding to his critics in a new interview with Hello Beautiful.

“When you look at my movies, you’re dealing with two franchises. Think Like a Man, I came back and did Think Like a Man 2, I have to be the same guy. I did Ride Along then I did Ride Along 2, I have to be the same guy. That’s four movies where I play two characters but those characters have to be consistent. Understanding the likability and the functionality of that character is a talent and something you have to maintain. When I sign up to do something, I’m very aware of what’s going on and I’m very aware where the separation is. I don’t feel like I’m doing the same thing at this point in my career”

Hart isn’t letting the critiques dampen his success, saying, “with anything negative comes a positive. Everything bad that happened at some part of my career, I was smart enough and strong enough to find the positives within that situation. If you don’t go down that road and take those bumps along the way, then you don’t have something that’s really strong to talk about and positive on the backside.”

The comedian is once again proving to be a busy star, as he is set to produce the film Run the Jewels. The film is already attracting another debate, as rapper EI-P is not happy that the film is the same name of his hip-hop group with Killer Mike.
