Is this the beginning of the end of “the dab?” The Atlanta-based dance was introduced to many of us last year via Atlanta artists like Migos, who had a hit song entitled “Look at My Dab.” Many athletes then brought the dance to the mainstream, particularly Carolina Panthers quarterback and NFL MVP, Cam Newton.

The dance would go on to be heavily identified with the QB and become his signature touchdown dance. Migos even endorsed Newton’s dabbing, dubbing him the “Dab Daddy.”

However, when the Panthers went on an incredible run last season, ending up in the Super Bowl, everyone thought they could dab. Literally everyone was dabbing from Hillary Clinton, to Bill Gates to Betty White. All of this attention was not positive though, with some naysayers calling Newton arrogant. Newton remained unapologetic, saying “I am who I am.”

But now, Newton says he is through with the dance. In an interview with WFNZ, when asked if he was going to dab this season, he said “I have to put that aside.” Newton says that he is looking for a new dance by September.

Does this mean that the dab craze is officially over? What will Cam’s new dance be? Find out this fall on Monday Night Football!
