#DonaldGloverforYoungLando. That hashtag flooded my Twitter feed after rumors leaked that Lucasfilm was looking to cast a young Lando Calrissian for its Han Solo film. Whether it’s true or not, word on the street is that Glover is the favorite.

And we didn’t waste any time.

It’s one of those things that makes perfect sense as soon as you hear it. Donald Glover is Lando Calrissian. Now that I’ve witnessed it, I can’t un-see it. Somebody please give Mr. Glover a cape and a blaster – this has to happen. At this point it’s more than bias. Yes, Donald Glover is a blerd favorite, especially mine. But after seeing him in nothing but traditional archetypes on the big screen, this is the role he needs. It’s a perfect place, perfect time scenario.

But what about Atlanta?

I know at least one person reading this is asking that question right now. What about Atlanta fam? It will be there. It’s on FX. Atlanta is coming. We’re talking about Star Wars right now. The biggest movie franchise in the history of movie franchises on earth. John Boyega is the first black character with lines since Mace Windu in the prequels (if you actually count those). And Billy Dee Williams played the original Lando back in 1983. 1983, fam. That’s right, more than a decade before a black man could get some shine in a galaxy far, far away. We need every piece of representation we can get.

The tentatively titled Han Solo: A Star Wars Story has Aldrich Ehrenreich filling the gargantuan shoes that Harrison Ford left behind. If we ignore that Jar Jar Binks mess, Lucasfilm doesn’t usually miss with casting or characters though, so the role is in good hands. And it’s being directed by former The Flash writers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

Lando Calrissian is an iconic character that’s due for a return. And Donald Glover has the look, style, and sensibilities for this role. The stars don’t usually align like this in Hollywood very often, but when they do, something special always happens.

Not to flex, but since my last post about his son, Donald’s dad and I have become pretty cool. Ok, we’re kind of besties. Just kidding, he liked my tweet. But that’s not the point. The point is, there’s a small possibility that Donald might see this.

Mr. Glover,

Please play Lando for the culture. Yes, somebody else could do it, but the movie would not be as good.

Ira.

Han Solo: A Star Wars Story will be in theaters in 2018.
