“Wake Up!” It’s the message Spike Lee left his viewers with in the classic movie, School Daze and it is the same message he hopes to impart in the release of his recent promotional ad endorsing Bernie Sanders for President of the United States. To further that message, he enlisted the voices of many celebrities including, Tessa Thompson, Erika Andiola, Dr. Cornel West, Harry Belafonte, and the daughter of Eric Garner, Erica Garner to speak about the inequalities American citizens face in a multitude of issues such as education, health care, and social justice.

“The money that’s made from the rigged economy is paid for the political campaigns and they say they are going to fix things. But, wake up America! How are they going to fix a broken system when they are profiting from a broken system?” – Cesar Vargas

Aside from the celeb appearances, the video illustrates Sanders fervor of running “a campaign of the people, by the people, and for the people” as he speaks at a recent rally that took place in The Bronx. Before the end, Spike enlisted the babies to speak as they recite the preamble to the U.S. Constitution, giving meaning to the idea that the future is brighter with Sanders in it. As New Yorkers prepare to vote in the New York primary on April 19th, one can only imagine what a political ad like this can do to help sway the vote for Bernie from Brooklyn.
